Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary
Traces its origin to 1212, when the Virgin Mary is said to have given the Rosary to Saint Dominic de Guzman. The 7 October date recalls the 1571 victory of the Holy League, attributed to the Rosary prayed at the request of Pope Pius V; Gregory XIII later renamed the feast Our Lady of the Rosary.
